Mitchell Chadwick LLP Assists Tahoe Donner Association Successfully Expand Outdoor Recreation Opportunities

The Tahoe Donner Homeowners Association has had multiple recent successes in its efforts to expand outdoor recreation opportunities for its members and the public. On September 14, 2016, the County of Nevada approved the association’s five-year trails master plan. The trials project involves the renovation, improvement, or construction of 22 trail alignments. The majority of the trail alignments are located within Nevada County, with a small portion of the trails located within the Town of Truckee. The trials will serve and expand the area’s summer trail system and are exclusive of any public roadway or on-street bikeway improvements. Mitchell Chadwick LLP assisted Tahoe Donner in the formal entitlement and CEQA review process for the trails project.

Earlier this year (2016), Tahoe Donner acquired a 640-acre parcel of land, known as Crabtree Canyon, adjacent to the association’s existing holdings of over 7,000 acres. Tahoe Donner purchased the site from the Truckee Donner Land Trust, which will hold a permanent conservation easement to ensure the long-term management of the property for open space. Crabtree Canyon includes approximately 16 kilometers of cross country terrain that will be open to visitors in the winter. Additional terrain within the property could also be developed into seasonal Nordic trails in the future. Mitchell Chadwick assisted Tahoe Donner in reviewing and finalizing the agreement with the Truckee Donner Land Trust and their partners, the Nature Conservancy and the Northern Sierra Partnership.

Tahoe Donner also opened the Alder Creek Adventure Center in 2015. The center provides a suite of services for Nordic skiers, including a café, rental services, wax rooms, a retail store, and other amenities. Tahoe Donner describes the facility as “world-class.” The Adventure Center has the ability to accommodate national and international events. In the summer months, the Nordic trials maintained by Tahoe Donner are popular with hikers, bikers, and horseback riders, and the Adventure Center is converted to house Tahoe Donner’s equestrian and bicycle operations. Mitchell Chadwick assisted Tahoe Donner with the permitting efforts for this facility.
