Alek graduated Order of the Coif from University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law with a certificate in Capital Lawyering. During his last semester of law school, he had the opportunity to complete an externship for the Honorable Judge Callahan in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Alek had the opportunity to work as a summer law clerk for the California Department of Water Resources and Kronick Moskovitz Tiedemann & Girard between his first and second year of law school, respectively. During law school, he served as the president of Lambda Law Students Association, Co-Chair of the Unity Caucus, and Vice President of the Public Legal Services Society.
He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Political Science with an emphasis in Public Administration and a Minor in Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations from Northwest Missouri State University, graduating Summa Cum Laude.
Alek began his legal career as an associate at Kronick Moskovitz Tiedemann & Girard in Sacramento where he advised various public agencies on issues of municipal, water, environmental, and land use law. Additionally, he worked with planning commissions and planning staff in multiple jurisdictions, giving him valuable insight into how local agencies approach and process various planning applications.
