Energy Development

Members of Mitchell Chadwick possess broad and deep experience representing clients in California’s rapidly evolving energy marketplace. A summary of that experience follows.

Regulatory Practice

Mitchell Chadwick represents a variety of natural gas producers, pipeline and storage companies and energy development proponents and our attorneys enjoy a reputation for quality representation of local and nationally based clients in this highly specialized area. While much of our attention is devoted to regulatory and permitting work, we also provide legal counsel for energy transactions including project acquisition, facility purchases, regulatory enforcement defense, and resource leases.

Project Entitlement and Opinions

Mitchell Chadwick is one of the few firms in California with the skills and experience necessary to bring a project from the initial planning stages to full operation. Our team works effectively with engineers, biologists, regulatory agency staff and our client’s internal project managers to conduct financial and permitting due diligence, render financing opinions, assure full CEQA/NEPA compliance, and otherwise fully entitle an energy project.

The firm’s attorneys are well versed in the myriad of environmental issues regularly encountered in gas storage, oil and gas pipeline projects, and energy development projects (including geothermal, biomass, wind power, and solar). This experience allows us to communicate effectively with engineers, biologists and government officials without the need for an interpreter. We work with clients and consultants to smooth the permitting process, and regularly render governmental permit, leasehold and title opinions.

Transactional

The firm also provides advice in areas such as oil and gas, wind, and geothermal leases and acquisition of property. Our attorneys obtain right-of-ways and easements from private and public entities as needed for pipelines, transmission lines, power generation stations, and oil and gas facilities
