California’s housing affordability crisis is at a breaking point: severe lack of supply means skyrocketing housing prices and rents; high housing prices push families out of the market; high rents force people out of the communities where they live resulting in longer commute times; and, finally, families that cannot own a home are then denied access to the middle class.

Yet, the California Legislature seems to not have learned any lessons from the housing bubble and continues to introduce proposals that could make things worse.

This year, more than 100 bills have been introduced claiming to address our ongoing housing crisis, but the reality is too many aren’t focused on what experts say is needed: accelerating the pace of private housing.
