Joseph D. Knadler
Associate
Joe specializes in environmental law, natural resources development, and land use entitlements. A Northern California native, Joe graduated from the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University with honors in 2024. During law school, Joe was on the Dean’s List and earned CALI awards in multiple classes, including Writing for Law Practice. Throughout the summer and the school year, Joe worked in the legal department at U-Haul International and a Phoenix-based company, assisting with land use and various real estate matters.
Since joining Mitchell Chadwick, Joe has advised clients on a wide range of mining and environmental permitting work, including mitigation and conservation banks, permittee-responsible mitigation, and mining projects throughout the state. Joe frequently works with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Army Corps of Engineers to entitle mitigation banks throughout California and to advise on matters related to bank operations and credit sales. This work involves navigating mineral rights, endangered species, jurisdictional waters, the 2008 mitigation rule, and California Environmental Quality Act issues.
Outside of Joe’s environmental permitting practice, he also conducts in-depth mineral title examinations and prepares title opinions, and advises on traditional development projects in relation to traditional land-use laws and California Environmental Quality Act compliance.
